How to choose the right stick

If you are new to choosing a stick, two things matter most: your carbon percentage and your bow profile.

Carbon percentage controls stiffness and energy transfer. Lower carbon (15-50%) gives more forgiveness and touch, which suits club players and those developing their game. Higher carbon (70-100%) gives stiffer, more powerful hitting and flicking, which suits performance and elite players who can control that extra power.

Bow profile controls how the stick behaves in specific skills. An extreme low or extra low bow favours drag flicking, 3D skills, and aerial work. A low or mid bow suits players who need to hit, push, and flick across open play. A pro or classic bow suits players who primarily hit and tackle.

Supernova (extra low bow, 30-100% carbon) — attacking midfielders and versatile forwards who flick across open play

What carbon percentage field hockey stick should I buy? 

Match carbon percentage to your level and role, not your ambition. Club and developing players generally get more consistent results from 30-50% carbon, which is more forgiving on off-centre hits. Performance and elite players who need maximum stiffness and power for flicking and hitting should look at 70% and above. What bow profile is best for drag flicking?

 An extreme low or extra low bow, positioned closer to the head, gives the best control for drag flicking and 3D skills. The Naked Extreme Plus and Extreme 50 are both built specifically for this.

What is the difference between senior and junior sticks? 

Senior sticks are built to full adult length and stiffness specifications for players who have finished growing. Junior sticks, including the Genesis and Prodigy ranges, use shorter lengths and lower carbon percentages suited to a developing player's strength and technique.

Are Naked Hockey sticks suitable for beginners?

Yes. The Genesis range is fibreglass rather than carbon, built specifically for beginners and younger players just starting out. The Prodigy range steps up to a low carbon percentage for developing players ready for more performance..

It delivers a better stiffness-to-weight ratio, more consistent energy transfer, and greater durability than lower-grade carbon. Every Naked Hockey stick uses Japanese Toray carbon fibre.

What is Textreme carbon and which sticks use it?

Textreme is a spread-tow carbon fabric that lays the carbon fibres flatter and wider than standard woven carbon, which reduces resin content and improves the strength-to-weight ratio without adding bulk. Our higher performance models use Textreme carbon alongside Japanese Toray fibre for a lighter, stiffer stick.
