🏆 “A Dream Come True” – Antoine Kina on Leading Gantoise to EHL Glory

"To now win the EHL with Gantoise - it’s something crazy." – Antoine Kina

On Monday, April 21st, Gantoise made hockey history, lifting their first-ever Euro Hockey League (EHL) title. Leading them was club captain and Belgian international Antoine Kina, whose calm presence, sharp playmaking, and sheer determination helped carry the side to glory.

We sat down with Antoine the day after the final whistle to talk dreams, drama, leadership - and the celebration that followed.

🇧🇪 What It Means to Him, and to Belgian Hockey

"This started as a project nine years ago… I’m honoured to wear this shirt."

Antoine’s relationship with Gantoise is lifelong.

“I’m incredibly proud. As a kid, I dreamed of playing in a big final with Gantoise. And now we’ve won the EHL - it’s surreal. This club has grown so much, and to be part of that journey is just incredible.”

But the win isn’t just personal. Kina believes it signals something bigger for Belgian hockey.

“It’s huge for Belgian hockey. Both our men’s and women’s teams performed so well. If we can keep this up each year, the sport will only grow in visibility. That’s the goal.”

And to young players watching?

“Dream big. That’s the message.”

🏑 The EHL Journey: Pressure, Belief, and Big Moments

The EHL is known for its relentless pace - three elite-level games in just four days.

“It’s brutal physically, but we live for those moments. As a team, we enjoyed every second.”

The Turning Point?

“I didn’t let myself think about winning… until we stopped that stroke at 4–2 in the final. That’s when it felt real.”

🎧 Match Day Rituals & Leadership on the Pitch

Antoine’s match day is all about staying grounded.

“No real superstitions. I just try to relax, listen to good music with the guys, and keep things light.”

Before the final, his team talk was clear:

“I told the team: defend like your life depends on it. Die for each other. That’s how we’d have a chance.”

As captain, Kina leads by example:

“Playing well lifts the team. I focus on getting everyone defensively organised - if we form a solid block, we can control the game.”

🏆 Lifting the Trophy: A Childhood Dream Realised

“It was a dream come true. To win the EHL with this group - a team full of heart - that made it even more special.”

With his father coaching from the sidelines and family in the crowd, the moment was emotional.

“I didn’t have a speech prepared. I was just so proud. I’ll be smiling for weeks.”

🙌 Behind the Scenes: Gratitude and GForce Energy

Antoine credits the success to a long list of supporters.

“First, my dad - he made me the player I am. Then there’s the Gforce. They sang their hearts out for two straight games. Unbelievable. And of course, the Gantoise board. What they’ve built in nine years - from relegation battles to EHL champions - is unreal.”

🎉 Celebrating the Win

“Big party. Amazing vibe in the team. We had an incredible night… and I think the celebrations will continue for a few more days!”

🥇 The Stick Behind the Win: Naked Supernova

“I'm fully in love with it after winning the EHL.”

Antoine Kina is also the first player to use the new Naked Supernova stick, the result of 18 months of development.

“It’s such a beautiful stick. The feel, the balance, the control—it’s next level. Honestly, it’s the best stick I’ve ever used.”

👏 One for the History Books

With a medal around his neck, a trophy in hand, and a squad of warriors behind him, Antoine Kina has etched his name into the Gantoise story - and perhaps helped turn a new page for Belgian club hockey.

“This is just the beginning.”
